No End In Sight

It was with great sadness that I read Friday's Record Delta article about the continuing saga of the CVB. Mr. Bailey, the attorney for the CVB, makes grand statements about not backing down, will not pay a dime required by Judge Henning, and will likely sue the city. While Mr. Bailey's rantings remind me of a bandy rooster strutting around the chicken coup, he is not acting without direction from the current CVB.

The current CVB has lost sight of the fact that their mission is to act as stewards of public funds for the benefit of the public. I believe it is time for the current CVB leadership to do everything in their power to put an end to the legal bickering. Now is the time to move forward. Anything less will only result in more clucking, cock-a-doddle-do'ng and chicken s*%t.

  1. I say shame on both sides. There are now over 6000 losers. Those being the citizens of this town. How dare a bunch of egos do this to our community. The only real winners will be Mr. Reed and the other ego maniac. We stand to loose over $330,000 if this thing doesn't end soon. What could be done for this town with that money? Maybe pave a few streets, some new water lines, the list goes on and on. I have stood by and watched while all involved said look at us, we are right. All the time our tax dollars being flushed away all due to egos. Please go away and let our town get back to being a community of caring, not one of egos. If the CVB were to have an "Ego Festival", now that right there would be one hell of a fund raiser.

  2. Amazing that you are calling for the CVB to stop when you and your friends have been trying to get a so called citizens advisory commitee to oversee the Police Dept, even going so far as to try to sneak it in as a City ordinance. And yet your group still won't back down. It's kind of like the pot calling the kettle black!!!!

  3. Sometimes I forget things, but if my old mind serves me correctly, I believe Mr. Preston that it was your political backers that started this whole mess. A little journey down the ego highway so to speak. Your restaurant friend and the little tiny design guy and others have caused about enough of our tax dollars to be wasted. It will be a sad affair that come next budget year, you have to go ask these folks for some of our money back. The CVB folks need a ride outta town. If they would have left there big fat egos at home on meeting days, we would not even be having this discussion. Just some insight from an old guy.

  4. Mr.Preston, I know you inherited this mess, but please use some good common sense. As the old verbage "Don't bring a knife to a gun fight" aka know when it's time to give up. Our Mayor and council are making Buckhannon the laughing stock of West Virginia. Is this what we elect these officials for? If you all are fighting for us taxpayers please don't do us anymore favors, we can't afford it.

  5. To my understanding Buckhannon now has two CVB's.Maybe we need two mayors and a city council that will support the police and allow them to do thier jobs without certain political local influence. It's time for the City to move on. They got themselves into this mess now lick your wounds and move forward for the good of the Community. It a shame though to see you and your self appointed police advisory trying to tell the police department how they need to run. Some of the minutes I have read are it appears you think we have too many officers but I totally disagree with that ,the City of Buckhannon DOES NOT have enough officers and we can thank them for the low crime rate. But trying to get rid of officers is offensive to me. The crime rate in Buckhannon would soar and businesses would not want to locate here without the police. The Low Crime Rate is what attracts people and businesses to this Community and what's the use to promote it if you jeopardize the safety of the community by allowing a small group of self appointed people the privilege of running the police. Can we say selective enforcement to certain people?

  6. For anyone reading this, I am just sick of the whole mess. Also I am noticing that the two remaining Council Members - Pam Cuppari & Skeeter Queen, continue to vote in a way as to indicate that they have not "moved on" either. Maybe it's time for the voters to get together & call upon the Secretary of State to see if it would be possible to remove the Mayor & the entire Council & let us truly start over. Only then, maybe, would the Citizens of Buckhannon be safe from having any more of our hard-earned money tossed away childishly. God help us!
