A recent comment about one of my blogs inspired today's blogment. I'm very pleased that citizens are taking an interest in city government and seeking more information. It will take us all a little time to get used to the information that is currently available.
A commenter asked if additional, officer specific, report statistics were available and why council didn't ask the chief (Gregory) for that kind of detail. Actually, Chief Gregory's report to council did include officer specific activity statistics, it just wasn't discussed during the last meeting. One good way to see department report information, statistics, financials, etc., is to review the paperwork submitted to council members as backup information for our regular meetings. All the documents can be viewed by visiting the city's website www.buckhannonwv.org and click on the Announcements tab.
Chief Gregory, or any department head for that matter, will be happy to answer any question or field a concern from a resident. Give them a call or send an email. Contact information is also available by visiting the city's website under the Services tab. If you are uncomfortable contacting a department head directly, contact one of the council members. Our emails and phone numbers are listed on the city website under the Council tab.

Why are so many people curious about the police dept and what they are doing, or not doing, but none of the other city departments? I also have been hearing that you and your small group of cronies are going to have a citizens advisory commitee overseeing what the police dept does.
ReplyDeleteI am curious as to how many citizens will be on this commitee and who will pick them? I have an idea, why don't we have citizens advisory commitees overseeing all city departments , plus city council and the mayor?
Why dont you all leave the police dept. alone. The have a job to do. What next your going to start on other depts. and tell them you cant do this or you have to do this. Go ahead and tell the police they cant enforce the laws, then if something happens it will be on your shoulders. I have heard council is going to tell the police to stay off Rt. 33 if its in the city take care of it. I really am upset that a gentleman from the college puts out a recommendation on what he thinks the Buckhannon police dept should be doing. The city council needs to get back to what they are elected to do, run the city, you have dept heads to run specific depts let them do it .
ReplyDeleteYou two commenters obviously have no idea what you are talking about. Perhaps you should just wait till it is finished and presented, before you jump to conclusions like people around here so often do. As far as the report goes, you can ask the paper, why they presented a incomplete draft of a document before it was finished, and dicussed with the police as a complete document. It was very bad reporting. It was a discussion issue document, not a view of how the police need to operate.
ReplyDeleteI have to agree with the first 2 commentators. I think the 3rd anonyomous knows what they he/she knows what they are talking about, and is spinning it. There is no reason why the city council input should be even considered unless they have been "trained" in judicial mangement. As I recall the Mayor is administrator for the city employee's, not a bunch of yahoo's playing find the money. PLEASE worry about macro managing instead of micro-managing. You are really just wasting time and money, the latter being some of mine! You (they) scammed the CVB now finish that crap and move on!
ReplyDeleteIt appears to me that Anonymous 3 is upset because the public was made aware of changes that this "concerned" group of citizens wants to see made "policy". It is about time the public has been made aware of things before hand, not after the decisions are made behind closed doors and in secret meetings.....
